WHY IS MEMPHIS SO LOOKED OVER WHEN IT COME TO MUSIC, ART, AND CULTURE? (an old facebook note of mine, but still important)

I know that to most people outside of Memphis, our city is a place of mostly ignorance, stupidity, no substance when it comes to culture, art, and music but it still saddens me the way the rest of the country looks past Memphis when it comes to Spoken Word, Hip Hop, and Neo Soul....We have so much talent in our city that nobody knows about...people like Tonya Dyson, Knowledge Nick, The Iron Mic Coalition, Hardface, AZ Truly, Megan J, TamE, A.T. Chill, F.W. Love, Lenny Cain, Phatmak, Inner City South, Rhetoric Jones, Master of the Skies, just to name a few....There is SO MUCH talent in Memphis and we never get the credit or recognition we deserve...Our own city doesn't even support us because they are so use to digesting bullshit. I look at shows likes Def Jam Poetry and often laugh because the poets and artists on the show are not even on the level of the artists here in Memphis. Then on the music side, the radio stations want even play our music because it's not "Memphis Music." I think it's time we let the rest of the nation know, as well as our own city, who we are as a movement...Let's let these people know that we are more than Gangster Rappers...LET'S SHOW THEM THAT WE ARE A CITY OF CULTURE...Let set goals to do more than just have shows here in Memphis....Let's travel, get on the radio, get on Def Jam Poetry...Because we NEED to be heard....PEACE AND LOVE, GHOST.
